Character Design
Nothing has advanced my work as a children’s book illustrator more profoundly than drawing from observation. Seeing the world through the eyes of my son—and observing him and his friends in their everyday play—has been transformative to my artistic practice. I regularly bring my sketchbook to the beach, the park, and the forest, documenting their movements, gestures, and interactions in real time. These observational sketches allow me to capture a sense of authenticity, spontaneity, and character that directly informs and enriches my illustration work.
